Planning Your Church Project

Before approaching a financial institution, it is important to get ready for the process. You will have to complete a detailed application package and gather several documents and records.

Having your information ready when you begin can eliminate stress and provides for a smoother and shorter process. See our checklist for a list of common documents.

Buying or constructing a building requires a significant financial investment from the church or organization.

Taking the time to plan can help your organization avoid several costly pitfalls and legal entanglements.

Some tips to help your organization prepare for borrowing include:

  • Form a task force or a committee, preferably professionals with expertise in a diverse range of fields
  • Reviewing the organization’s mission and vision. Listing goals, objectives and timelines for achieving them. Include a growth strategy that encompasses the types of ministries, services and programs that you wish your organization to provide
  • Review your organization’s current financial position to help project future revenue needed for the project. Develop a realistic budget, control spending and regularly monitor progress towards financial goals

Capital Campaign

A Capital Campaign is an organized time-limited effort to raise funds for the acquisition, construction or renovation of a building. Capital Campaign funds are also commonly used to purchase large equipment. Many ministries and organizations will initiate Capital Campaigns to help fund their projects. With planning and effort it is possible to raise a significant sum of money to complete a purchase or an expansion project.
